  • Sinfonia undecima edition opening measure

12 Sinfonia for Violins by Giovanni Bononcini

Our collection of music for strings continues to grow with the addition of twelve sinfonia by Giovanni Bononcini (1670-1747), son of Giovanni Maria Bononcini, whose work was recently added to the Anthology of Italian Instrumental Music (Monuments of Seventeenth-Century Music, Volume 2). Our collection now includes six sinfonia for two violins from his Opus 4, published in 1686 and a further six for solo violin and continuo from Opus 6, published in 1687. Prepared by Thomas D. Dunn, the editions join a growing anthology of works that will gather representative instrumental works from across the Italian 17th-century.
